More about Jebel Hafeet

Jebel Hafeet or ‘Mountain’ Hafeet is a ‘must-not-miss’ attraction in Al Ain. Located south of the Al Ain city border shared with Oman, a high way has been constructed in 1986 to reach this place. It is around 1250m high and the drive up the majestic rocky mountain on its winding roads is certainly worth a trip. There are several parking lots along the way which provide ample viewing opportunities and beautiful backdrops for photo shoots. Right at the top are viewing platforms where you can spend time gazing down at Oasis city and also a café where you can have some quick refreshments. The beauty of Al Ain city is enjoyed best from the top. At around 915m height is Mercure Grand Jebel Hafeet Hotel, well known for their views and recreation facilities.

Per official sources, Jebel Hafeet is also a source of fossil finds which provide proof of ancient life-forms. The discovery of calcified corals establishes that the region was once covered by the sea. Jebel Hafit is the home of several species plants, animals and birds, such as Arabian Tahr.

It could get cooler at the top, so it might be a good idea to take your jacket along. During the winter months, afternoons are a better time to visit, when it is neither too cold nor hot, and you can bet on a clearer view than otherwise. During summer, evening will probably be a better choice.

Jebel Hafeet also offers stunning visuals at night, from the city. With the lights switched on along the twisting roads, the mountain comes alive and alight and looks like a shimmering lamp in the distance.
