The American International School in Abu Dhabi was founded in the UAE's capital city in 1995 to serve the educational needs of the local and expatriate residents of Abu Dhabi who want their children to pursue both American and International Baccalaureate curricula. AISA was the first school in Abu Dhabi to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program and IB Primary Years Program . The school is coeducational in elementary and gender-segregated in secondary.CampusThe school is located on the island of the city of Abu Dhabi. The school facilities include a library, a prayer room, art rooms, a computer lab, a swimming pool, and six science labs. AISA has two gymnasiums, an outdoor basketball court, two AstroTurf soccer pitches and a grass soccer pitch.The campus accommodates three levels of schooling. The elementary level consists of 700 students, the middle school level consists of 395 students, and the high school level consists of 650 students. The school is coeducational in elementary and gender-segregated in secondary. The total number of students is 1347 students and the students come from 82 countries.AccreditationAISA is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the Council of International Schools, and the UAE Ministry of Education. It is authorized by the IB to offer the Primary a Years and Diploma Programs. AISA is an associate member of both the Near East South Asian Association of Overseas Schools (NESA) as well as the European Council of International Schools (ECIS).CurriculumThe American International School in Abu Dhabi serves the needs of an international student body by offering an American high school diploma program and the International Baccalaureate program. Students in Kindergarten to grade 5 follow the U.S. Curriculum within the IB Primary Years Program (IBPYP). In grades 6-9, students continue to follow the American curriculum. High school students can choose between the U.S. high school diploma, or the IB Diploma Program. The grading system used is Standard Based Grading, not following the U.S. grading system.
